Natural Stone: Versatile Edge Designs and Timeless Beauty

Natural stone is a diverse building material that occurs in a range of stunning options such as: granite, marble, soapstone, travertine, and limestone. As importers and distributors of stone, we stand by our stone selection as being one of the best, customizable choices for your renovation project. Natural stone is a beautiful material that is ideal when you want to make a statement with a unique surface found in nature.

When designing your countertop, fireplace, stairs, or other interior space, you have a few options to customize your look. Beyond choosing the color and finish, you’ll also have the opportunity to choose an edge detail in order to compliment the overall look and atmosphere you want to convey.

Ogee Edge

The Ogee Edge consists of a concave arch which flows into a convex arch. It's a frequently-seen design in kitchen countertops.

Bullnose Edge

A Bullnose Edge is more rounded. It's a simple and straightforward style.

Waterfall Edge

For an elegant and seamless look, consider a Waterfall Edge. As the name implies, this look utilizes the same surface on the countertop to clad the sides. It goes straight down like a waterfall, forming a 90-degree angle at the countertops' end.

Square Edge

A Square Edge is similar to the Waterfall Edge, except that in this type, there is an overhang at the end of the counter. The simple line still makes for a clean and modern look.

Chiseled Edge

In a Chiseled Edge, the sides are left rough. It gives your countertop more dimension and texture.

Pencil Edge

A Pencil Edge is similar to the Square Edge, but the edges are softened a tiny bit. It's more comfortable against your arms and easy to clean.

Straight Edge

In a straight edge, corners are slightly rounded, but you can customize how much curve you want them to have. It's a great style when you don't want to detract from the beauty of the stone.

Eased Edge

Like the Pencil Edge and Square Edge, the Eased Edge has a similar, clean style, but has slightly more rounded corners. Eased is a suitable cut to use when you want to show off the thickness of the stone.

Beveled Edge

The Beveled Edge has a great, classic look with subtle accents. The top edge of the countertop is cut at a 45-degree angle, which then drops down into a straight edge. It may make your countertops look a bit shorter, but it enhances the look of the marble or stone.

How Is Natural Stone Installed?

Natural stone slabs made from granite, marble, soapstone, travertine, or limestone weigh hundreds of pounds and should be professionally installed for a flawless result. Existing countertops need to be removed, and cabinets must be level before positioning the new counters. Although the installation process takes anywhere from three to seven hours, your natural stone will last a lifetime!
