Porcelain Tile Flooring is the Next Big Thing

Tile flooring is becoming extremely popular; especially the choice of porcelain tiles that are 12-inch squares. They work great in areas prone to moisture such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens entryways and basements.

What Makes Porcelain A Popular Choice?

Unlimited Options for Design

A vast variety of patterns, shapes, colors are available for porcelain tiles. Options in size also range from a square inch to large slabs. It’s unlikely you’ll have any trouble finding the perfect solution for your project.

Great for High Traffic Areas

Porcelain tiles are water, stain and wear proof making them very durable.

Harder than Ceramic Tiles

As a rule of thumb, porcelain tile is typically more durable than ceramic since the clay applied to produce porcelain tile is finer and of a higher quality. The amount of heat/pressure applied to porcelain tiles in the kiln also makes them denser.

Requires Only Basic Care

Sweep, vacuum, mop with a solution of ¼ cup of vinegar with two gallons of water, rinse clean and dry with a soft cloth to maintain the natural shine of porcelain.

Resilient in Extreme Temperatures

Porcelain has a low moisture absorption measurement, so it is less susceptible to breaking and staining in extreme temperatures.

What you Should Know When Choosing Porcelain

Although the name Porcelain is used to describe a variety of products it’s important to know they are not all created equal. When choosing your porcelain tile, it's best to pick one with the same color all the way through. If the tile only has a ceramic glaze fired across the body, it will be obvious if chipped. Also, watch for hardness ratings to assure you choose a surface that can withstand the amount of traffic you expect (Group I is light traffic – Group V which is for heavy traffic).
